Dimension 4700 heatsink compatibility

Okay.. I've researched everywhere and i know that the Dimension 4700 is an lga775 socket. So i Bought a new heatsink that was an lga775 and it doesn't fit.. it is way too big, what heatsink socket size fits a dimension 4700?

It doesn't fit because Dell's heatsink retention bracket is proprietary.

Dell spare parts can be reached by phone at 1-800-357-3355 if something is wrong with your current heatsink. Dell doesn't sell the heatsink retention bracket separately.

lol that means there are no current solutions.. so are all dell components standard? If i buy a new motherboard, will all my current ram/powersupply/processor work with it?

Dells motherboards are proprietary like its heatsink brackets. You will have to get a motherboard from Dell.

If you use a non-Dell motherboard, as the OEM copy of windows is tied to Dell's BIOS you will have buy a new retail copy of windows.  Also, Dell's case is not a standard ATX design, you will need to carry wiring and maybe case [IO Panel] modifications, plus the D4700 Dell PSU has a BTX 24 pin plug.

No, the memory and processor maybe, if they are compatible with new motherboard, the PSU has a BTX 24pin connector, to use this you may require an adaptor.  Read my other post about the same subject.

you misunderstood my question. What i mean is, are all the components on my dell computer compatible iwth a different motherboard? Will my powersupply, ram, and processor work with another motherboard not made by dell?

thanks for all the replies, helping me a lot. So if I decide to buy a new motherboard, i'll have to get a new PSU, copy of XP and that's all?

Because I already changed the case on my computer.. don't ask me why but I did. I have it in a standard ATX case and its workign fine. the only thing that is obviously not compatible is the heatsink shroud which held the heatsink down and i can't replace it with a standard one because thats the only part of dell thats proprietary.
